CAVTAT

|
Grown into marvelous Konavle coast, into
its indented westernmost part, with wood-grown slopes and sandy beaches,
with promontories and coves inhabited in ancient times, which further in
the west continue in form of even more marvelous Dubrovnik Riviera,
Cavtat is a several thousand years old settlement. The nature was very
generous to Cavtat. It gave the town one of the most beautiful coast in
this part of Adriatic: indented, with numerous sandy beaches, it gently
descends towards the sea in all its length of 7 kilometers, grown with
lovely cypress and pine groves, shallow and suitable for swimming in all
its parts. All Cavtat reminds of a gentle oasis lying below steep hills
in the north and beside sheer rocks of Konavle coast in southeast. It
was this position of Cavtat, which influenced its historical and
strategical course through centuries, and helped its almost magic
strength to survive, to fight and resist. It passed through all stormy
periods in changes of epochs, through all temptations and troubles in
long centuries and preserved its urban core and territory on the same
spot of old Konavle coast.

Wherever you go in Cavtat, you will come
across cultural and historical monuments, museum collections, private
collections, traces of the past.

When walking across the old core of this
small town on Prijeko, you will feel the winds of history, the waves of
millennia; you will be covered with their foam. Behind each corner you
will see the shadows of past epochs, mixing with the present day -
stones, arches, thresholds, arched gates, niches, courtyards with small
statues of Amor, with lemon and orange trees, old species of vine and
trees with bell shaped crowns, flower-pots with lovely plants.
